ITF Taekwon-Do follows the tenets and philosophy of its founder, General Choi Hong Hi. Its philosophy is based on the essential tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. It becomes necessary to apply our tenets and fully exercise them in practice, not as a mere repetition or as a memory habit but rather to adopt a way of living which will tune us with the power that practicing Taekwon-Do provides us. There will be emphasis on patterns and technical perfection.
Taekwon-Do 1 works on conditioning through various basic stances, and hand and foot techniques such as kicks, blocks and strikes. Also, we will be working on self-defense and danger awareness in class. By learning these fundamentals, children will enhance their physical, emotional, and intellectual skills. This course is suitable for first and second graders, as it embraces games and drills for a fun and educational environment.
Taekwon-Do 2 continues to work on skills learned in the first level. Ages are more advanced. This course introduces new complex techniques of kicks, blocks and strikes, as well as self-defense moves, patterns and incorporating sparring drills. We will also keep working on areas such as danger awareness and the philosophy of ITF Taekwon-Do.
Taekwon-Do 3 incorporates more self-defense exercises, steps, sparring, and double/triple combinations, including jump and spin techniques and double kicks with alternate legs. Training includes defensive and offensive tactics in sparring with light contact (protection gear for safety), arms sparring and learning competition rules.
