Appropriate Classroom Attire

Dancers need to wear a leotard, ballet tights, ballet shoes and have their hair up.

Courses

Baby Ballet

In this dance class, three-year olds will be taught how to dance through creative movements. They will develop an appreciation of rhythm and timing, music and grace. This program also will help develop your child’s body coordination.

*This class will not be participating in the TYPA Dance Show. Students need to be 3 years old before September 1, 2024.

Pre-Ballet 1

Students will be introduced to movement with music and will learn some of the very basic ballet steps. They will also learn how to participate in group activities. Body movement and coordination, a sense of balance and recognition of rhythm will be introduced in this class. There will also be a focus on understanding the etiquette of the ballet studio.

Pre-Ballet 2

This class is designed for students who have taken Pre-Ballet 1 for two semesters. Students will practice more complicated movements in this class.

Ballet 1

Ballet introduces elementary exercises in the placement of the body, legs, arms and head. This class also develops elementary skills in step coordination. This level should be taken for at least two semesters. At the end of the year, students will be assessed as to their suitability in moving to the next level.

Ballet 2

During this period of study, formal exercises are increased and will stress the development of leg and foot strength through exercises on half-toe. Students will be more aware of their movement, sense of dance space and direction. At the end of the year, students will be assessed as to their suitability to move on to Ballet 3.

Ballet 3

More advanced ballet steps and techniques will be introduced in this class. Students will be asked to do each movement more precisely, including body posture, leg and arm positions and dance steps. This class will prepare students for a more advanced ballet class. At the end of the year, students will be assessed as to their suitability in moving to Ballet (Advanced).

Ballet (Advanced)

This course is an advanced class for mature ballet dancers. Advanced steps and techniques will be reinforced in this class, and the
advanced exercises will give students greater coordination and strength. Students will be taught technically challenging skills and
movements.
